1. The saints have always been role models for me. (especially St. Therese!)I I always look up to them when I'm having a really hard time on something. (especially schoolwork and chores and other stuff like that)

2. I can play piano pieces that are from levels 3 to 5.(with lots of practice before I perform in public!)

3. I'm the shortest girl in the Therese's Roses group, but I'm not the youngest. :-P

4. I used to take ice skating lessons, tennis lessons, karate lessons, and gymnastics lessons when I was littler, but all that time I could play piano, so finally now I take piano lessons.

5. I used to have really, really, long hair but my mom cut it because I don't like to comb it so much because it would hurt and because it would really get hot where we live. Now my hair is a few inches past my shoulders, but I like it that way.

6. My hobbies are reading books, crocheting, knitting, making leis, embroidering, sewing, drawing, and playing the piano.

7. I really, really, like reading books or stories about saints, blesseds, venerables, the Blessed Virgin, Jesus, or peoples' experiences of the Holy Eucharist, vocation stories, stories about religious people, or anything religious at all. I like them so much, that all I read now is about them! Sometimes I even read the ones in the adult section in the library! They are so very inspiring! Now I don't really have much interest in fiction books like Star Wars, the stuff I used to read. I really don't know why, I just don't.

8. I want to study Latin in the next grade I'm going to take.

Since the month of May is dedicated to Our Lady, I decided to post a Marian poem that I made today.

Mary

Mary, the mother of God endured many things,
Joys, love, sorrows, and sufferings,
Her love for her Son and us is more than enough,
Oh Blessed Virgin, please pray for us!

When was chosen to be the mother of God,
Can you imagine what road she had to trod?

And when she gave birth to Jesus, God’s only Son,
Can you imagine her great elation?

When she was told of the suffering she was to endure,
Do you think she was worried or unsure?

And when she found her Son in the temple preaching,
Can you imagine her relief after searching?

When her Son turned wine from water,
Can you imagine the thankfulness that filled her?

And when she heard her Son’s teachings,
Can you imagine her joyous feelings?

When she saw Him performing miracles,
Don’t you think she was truly grateful?

Feastday of Blessed Damien of Molokai

Okay, I know it's only the 9th but I don't have time tomorrow to post this.

I read the book Father Damien and the Bells by Arthur and Elizabeth Sheehan and learned many interesting things about him. But I'm only going to post about the things he did when he was younger. He was named after his godfather, Joseph Goovaerts, but he was usually called Jef by his family. And, like many saints, he was often caught running away from his family so that he could at least spend a few minutes praying in the Saint John the Baptist Church nearby his house. He also was caught sleeping on a hard board that was hidden in his bed somewhere. His most favorite chore he liked to do was tending the sheep that which he earned the nickname from his family: Little sheperd. He always wanted to be a hermit when he was a young boy, that he and some other friends of his ran from home to a forest just to be like one! Oh, and did I mention that he was a champion boxer of Ninde?

Favorite Saints Meme

Yay! I was tagged by my sister!


You have to list your four favorite saints, one favorite blessed and someone who think should have been a saint.









St. Therese is one of my favorite saints for many various reasons, but one of them is because her “little way” really helps me everyday. Also because loved Jesus so much that she even asked the bishop to allow her to become a Carmelite sister at the age of 15. She often reminds me to be little too. I once read in a book (which was also shown in the movie Therese) that when she was a novice, she had to clean up a room where there was a spider. (I don’t blame her, I don’t like spiders either!) St. Therese is a great person to look up to and encourages me to be like her.






(Can you read the name on the picture? It says St. Paul.) I once tried to read the book Paul: a Critical Life, but it turned out that I couldn’t understand it very much. So I read a different book about him, Saint Paul the Apostle the Story of the Apostle to the Gentiles by Mary Fabyan Windeatt. It was a book for kids, and I was amazed and inspired of all the things he did. Now I am trying extra hard to pay attention to his letters which are read during Mass. After that, I plan to return to the book, Paul: a Critical Life, and maybe I will understand it more.





St. Bernadette is another one of my favorite saints because was very obedient and faithful to Our Lady even when she told not to. She often reminds me to be obedient even when I do not understand. Like when Our Lady told her to dig a hole in the dirt, wash herself there, and drink there. Even when she was teased for doing that, she was still obedient.





I have a lot more favorite saints but I wanted to include this one. St. Catherine Laboure. Besides loving Our Lady very much, I find her a bit similar to me because she had an older sister that was a great example to her to follow and a little sister that was very different from her but were good friends. And I also heard a story about her that she, when she was young, once entered a baking contest in a fair. She baked a lovely cake, and sure enough, she won first place. But she was not present to claim the prize. Instead of being there, she was helping a little lost boy find his mother. This story kind of reminds me of the Good Shepherd leaving the 99 other sheep to find little lost lamb. And so, I often ask Jesus, through the intercession of St. Catherine Laboure to make my cooking taste good. It really works. :-)



I guess you could know her name by just looking at her picture. But for those of you who do not know her name, it is Mother Teresa. She was a beautiful person, who, for over forty years helped the poor, sick, orphaned, and the dying. She is now awaiting her canonization, which I am praying for.




Does this count? Pope John Paul II is more than likely going to be a saint but I could not find anyone else for this position. I think it was awesome to have a pope like him. He is a great inspiration to my brother, because Pope John Paul was a very active person, and at the same time loved Our Lord very much.

The Doctor, the Scientist, the Priest, and the Boy Scout

A plane was about to crash. There were four people on board, a doctor, a scientist, a priest, and a boy scout. Unfortunately, there were only three parachutes. The doctor says, "I am a doctor, my patient needs me." Then he took a parachute and jumped off the plane. The scientist says, "I am not just an ordinary scientist, but also the smartest man in the world. I don't need a plane crash to be the end of my perfect, intelligent life." So he took a parachute and jumped off the plane. The priest turned to the boy scout and said, "You should take the last parachute. You are young and I have lived a long time. You should be allowed to live while you're still young." The boy scout shook his head, laughed, and said, "No need for that, Father. There are still two more parachutes for us." He rolled his eyes and smiled. "The scientist, or, as he said, the smartest man in the world, took my backpack."


One of my parent's friends told me this story. Besides teaching me to look before you do anything, it also taught me to be honest about yourself and not build up your pride. Otherwise, you have a long way to fall.

Today's Gospel Reading

Jesus said to his disciples: "Do not let your hearts be troubled. You have faith in God; have faith also in me. In my Father's house there are many dwelling places. If there were not, I would have told you that I am going to prepare a place for you? And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back again and take you to myself, so that where I am you also may be. Where I am going you do not not know the way." Thomas said to him, "Master, we do not know where you are going; how can we know the way?" Jesus said to him, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me."

Right after the gospel, an old song that me and my siblings sing came to my mind. It goes:

Jesus is the way, the truth and the life, and His banner over me is love.

Then we would sing it several more times, but it would go higher and higher and higher. Pretty soon, we all would get off tune and laugh until our stomachs hurt and we start the next verse.

We are the flock, and He is the Shepherd, His banner over me is love.

It was the same thing all over again, we would go higher and off tune and laugh and laugh. There were also hand motions, but I forgot how it goes. Anyway, even though we would always get off tune, we kept in mind that no matter how off tune we would get, He would be the way of the song. :-)

Feastday of Saints Philp and James the Apostles

Today is the feast day of Saints Philip and James the Apostles. I did a little research about them and I found that St. Philip is the patron saint of hatters, Luxembourg, (which is located in western Europe) pastry chefs,(I didn't know that!) San Felipe Indian Pueblo, and Uruaguay(which is located in the south eastern part of South America).

I also found out that St. James is the patron saint of apothocaries, druggists, dying people, fullers, hatters, milliners, pharmacists, and also Uruguay.

St. Athanasius

Today is the feast day of St. Athanasius. I don't really know much about him, just that he is a Doctor of the Church and he fought for the acceptance of the Nicene Creed. But that's pretty much it. So I decided to post a part of a letter he wrote.

Brethren, how fine a thing it is to move from festival to festival,
from prayer to prayer, from holy day to holy day. The time is now at hand when
we enter on a new beginning: the proclamation of the blessed Passover, in which
the Lord was sacrificed. We feed as on the food of life, we constantly refresh
our souls with his precious blood, as from a fountain. Yet we are always
thirsting, burning to be satisfied. But he himself is present for those who
thirst and in his goodness invites them to the feast day. Our Savior repeats his
words: If anyone thirsts, let him come to me and drink. He quenched the thirst
not only of those who came to him then. Whenever anyone seeks him he is freely
admitted to the presence of the Savior. The grace of the feast is not restricted
to one occasion. Its rays of glory never set. It is always at hand to enlighten
the mind of those who desire it. Its power is always there for those whose minds
have been enlightened and who meditate day and night on the holy Scriptures,
like the one who is called blessed in the holy psalm: Blessed is the man who has
not followed the counsel of the wicked, or stood where sinners stand, or sat in
the seat of the scornful, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who
meditates on his law day and night. Moreover, my friends, the God who first
established this feast for us allows us to celebrate it each year. He who gave
up his Son to death for our salvation, from the same motive gives us this feast,
which is commemorated every year. This feast guides us through the trials that
meet us in this world. God now gives us the joy of salvation that shines out
from this feast, as he brings us together to form one assembly, uniting us all
in spirit in every place, allowing us to pray together and to offer common
thanksgiving, as is our duty on the feast. Such is the wonder of his love: he

Oh come Holy Spirit!

As you probably know, this blog is new. Actually, I accidentally made this blog last night. I guess Jesus wanted me to make a blog. :-) Anyway, this poem popped into my head and I've decided to make it my "theme blog poem" that I would post every first of May.

Oh come Holy Spirit!
Enter our hearts and light our way,
Give us the strength and courage we need,
For all of us today.

Your word is like a magnet,
That would never keep us away,
“Oh come Holy Spirit!”
From each of our mouths we pray.

The crowning of Mary is soon,
Then flowers and blossoms would bloom,
As white as snow would be her gown,
And with many jewels would be her crown.
